General

Dear Engineering Students,
I am Shankar, did my M.Tech in Power and Control from IIT Kanpur, B.Tech from JNTU Kakinada Campus and Diploma from Andhra Polytechnic Kakinada.
I worked in General Electric, Hyderabad for 6 years in the field of renewable energy sources. At present, delivering number of lectures in the field of power electronics (since 2007) and delivered lectures in Control systems as well (in the past) especially for GATE/ESE/PSUs. This blog is to explore the various opportunities for electrical engineering students especially preparing for competitive exams. I would like to utilize this blog as platform to share information as much as I can and requesting the continuous feed back for the improvement. I am maintaining this blog after my busy schedule as part of social service and giving back something to the society. If you like it, you can also be part of it

Thanks

Time Management - Tips

Hello friends, how often do you hear yourself saying don’t have enough time? Do you wish you should have more time for your studies; for your favorite sport; for preparation for competitive exams; you can time for all these things if you plan your time well. Learn to manage your time by following the tips and advice given.
Time and Tide wait for None
Anthony was a very lazy boy and always used to postpone things. One day his father tried to make him understand the value of time. He said one should always do things on time. Anthony promised his father he would never postpone things.
One day he came to know about the first prize he got in a singing competition held last month. He was asked to collect the one the same day. He didn’t care and went to collect the prize the next day. But the prize became useless for him, as it was a ticket to a circus show, which was held the previous day.
Anthony learned a lesson from this incident. Can you guess the lesson Anthony learned at the end?
Give importance to the things that really matter.
Learn to prioritize your work.
Observe the box and prioritize your daily activities under four heads as given below:

Place each activity given below as per the Box provided above:
Idling/ skill development/ watching TV/ preparing for exams/ chatting/ dealing with other’s requests/ relationship building/ medical emergency/ writing an article/ reading gossip sites/ shopping for time pass.
If you are doing more activities from 2 quadrant, you have effective time management skills.
If you are doing more activities from 1 quadrant, you will have lot of stress.
If you are doing more activities from 4 quadrant, you have very poor time management skills and need to learn to do 2 quadrant activities.

Practice the following tips for effective Time Management:
·         Avoid postponement
·         Organize work place and home
·         Say “NO” whenever needed – firmly but politely
·         Develop “NO DISTURBANCE TIME ZONE”
·         Use waiting time usefully
·         Prepare a “To do” list
·         Prioritize
·         Replace useless activities with productive activities
·         Break big tasks into smaller chunks
·         Find your most productive time

“The key is not spending time but in investing in it”

Few interview tips

Dear All,
I got an opportunity to conduct mock interviews for TSPSC – AEE posts in the last week. I had few observations from the candidates and would like to share with my student community for their preparation in future interviews.
Most of the candidates are confusing in answering questions on hobbies, extra-curricular activities and co-curricular activities. In order to avoid the confusion, let us look into the basic definitions:
Question:
What is a co-curricular activity?
Answer:
A co-curricular activity is something that a person does because it is a part of the syllabus put
together by the university or the state board. So, if you are an engineering student with some XXX University, all that you do that your teacher asks you to do is co-curricular activity.
Example: Assignments after theory classes, preparation of lab records, quizzes, mental mathematics etc.
Question:
What is an extra-curricular activity?
Answer:
An extra-curricular activity has “pro-activeness” written all over it.  By definition, extra-curricular activities are “educational activities that do not fall in the scope of regular curriculum”. These are the activities that are totally outside the realm of normal curriculum, but are essential for the all round development of the students.
Example:
Industrial internship, technical paper presentation, sports, gym, swimming, athletics, etc.
Question:
What is hobby?
Answer:
A Hobby is an activity you pursue in your leisure time for pleasure and personal growth. Since these activities are done in short spurts, and regularly chances are that you are really passionate about them too!
Example:
Cooking, book reading, listening music, gardening etc.

GATE 2018 - All the best

Dear All,
finally the day comes!!!
Will power wins victories. The strength of your will ultimately spells success. With a firm will, you can face any obstacle or obstruction and ultimately gain mastery over it. I would like to mention one quote from Thomas Alva Edison (the inventor of electric bulb): "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration". He firmly believed that only with innate talent, genius or potential, one does not achieve success. Success is achieved by combining ability with hard work, emanating from a strong willpower.
I sincerely wish that willpower and hard work your efforts will be crowned with success and you will win a hard - fought admission into India's premier engineering institutions or good step in best PSUs.

I wish you all the best for all who are writing GATE 2018 examination.

Important update - UPSC

Dear All,
UPSC released notification for Civil Services Examination 2018. UPSC already released notification for Engineering services for 2018 (Preliminary exam is already over in January 2018).
I would like to highlight one useful and important information from these notifications:

As per the decision taken by the Govt for increasing the access of unemployed to job opportunities, the commission will publicly disclose the scores of the candidates (obtained in the Preliminary, Main Exam and Interview/Personality Test) through the public portals. The disclosure will be made in respect of only those candidates who will appear in the Interview/Personality Test for the ESE/CSE and are not finally recommended for the appointment. The information shared through this disclosure scheme about the non-recommended candidates may be used by other public and private recruitment agencies to appoint suitable candidates from the information made available in the public portal.
Candidates will be required to give their options at the time of Interview/Personality Test, while acknowledging the e-summon letter mailed to them for interview. A candidate may opt out of the scheme also and in that case his/her details will not be published by the commission.
